I’m looking forward to reading this Vanity Fair article chronicling the birth of the Internet from the people that were there.

The Belmont Stakes race is this weekend and Big Brown is poised to be the first horse to win the Triple Crown in thirty years. Watch this incredible video from the Preakness, where the jockey holds the horse back the entire race and then lets him go. It looks like Big Brown was on a sling shot. These horses are amazing athletes and Big Brown is of the the best ever.
And here is the same overhead view from Big Brown’s Kentucky Derby win
This is a fascinating image showing all the streets in the lower 48 United States in one image. It shows only streets, no other information. Yet you can discern mountains and cities and other topographical information because the streets flow around the geography.

I’m not a financial wizard, and I sometimes feel naive and ill-informed when I utter my bewilderment at the state of the housing market the last ten years. I don’t get how people can afford half a million dollar homes on typical American salaries. There aren’t that many people making $400K a year! The article linked below is scary, and if you believe it, validates my bafflement.
The bigger problem is the theory that the housing market has propped up much of our economy during this bubble. People felt safe going into debt because their homes were appreciating so fast. We may be in for quite a ride.
